The Team

As custodians of Manly’s most desirable beachfront site, Royal Far West has brought together a collaborative of internationally applauded award-winning designers to reinterpret this rarest of locations. An iconic team for an iconic site.

Architects Glenn Murcutt AO and Angelo Candalepas along with interior designer Sue Carr AM have created something truly extraordinary, with the glorious beach environment creating a strong visual and sensory focus. In bringing this aspirational vision to life, a unifying architectural and cultural landmark has been crafted with a unique sense of place.

Intrinsic to Aurora’s architectural expression is a desire to achieve harmony with both the existing and desired future character of the area. The design positively responds to the principles of scale, proportion and composition, with the use of beautiful, robust materials fashioning a finely grained, layered façade with an interplay of light and shadow.

With an esteemed career that spans three decades and a prolific body of work, Angelo strives for a calm and strong sense of place in his designs, believing an architect should take themself out of the design and look in as an outsider. Under his direction, Candalepas Associates has been widely awarded both nationally and internationally. Angelo is also a former President of the Australian Architecture Association and a Life Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects.
